Officials are encouraging trick or treaters and families to stay safe this weekend and recommending times for activities as Halloween draws nearer.

Bowling Green city government is recommending trick or treating in neighborhoods take place between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, but no hard rule is set for festivities.

“Trick or treat times are up to the people handing out the candy and the parents taking their children out to get candy,” said city Public Information Officer Debi West. “Four to eight is a recommended time, but we do not set it.”

Warren County government and other communities are recommending similar times. The city is encouraging drivers in neighborhoods to be on the lookout for trick or treaters and parents are encouraged to accompany their kids when going out.

Ronnie Ward, public information officer for the Bowling Green Police Department, told the Daily News that while no additional BGPD patrols will happen on Halloween, officers will be roaming through areas with heavy foot traffic.

BGPD is also encouraging motorists to exercise caution, and is encouraging parents to place high-visibility vests on their kids to increase safety.

“Be careful crossing roads be careful getting in and out of cars, and drivers need to anticipate children running into the street,” Ward said.

This Friday, D93 and the Crocker Law Firm will host Rockin’ Trick or Treat at the Bowling Green Ballpark. This event begins at 5:30 p.m. and local businesses will be handing out candy to visitors.

Allen County is recommending trick or treat times of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and tickets can be bought online for Skeleton’s Lair Scream Park. Tickets for Oct. 29 through 31 are still available.

Glasgow and Cave City are recommending trick or treat times of 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Spookout in the Campground will take place at Barren River Lake State Resort Park from 5 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday.
