In the expert commentary by Shelley Inglis in Saturday’s Plain Dealer (“How to prevent elections from being stolen,” Feb. 27), Inglis points out that comments from President Donald Trump during the State of the Union address about widespread cheating in U.S. elections are spreading “distrust in the U.S. electoral process, despite extensive evidence showing that voter fraud is rare, especially by noncitizens.”
To counter that false narrative and to increase citizen participation in elections, Ohio Sens. Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted need to vote “No” on the SAVE America Act that is moving through their chamber. The bill would impose burdensome hurdles on the voter registration process by mandating presentation of a birth certificate or passport.
