Mobile food pantries for NH SNAP recipients available

LEBANON — Mobile food pantries and food boxes specifically for SNAP-recipients will be available on the New Hampshire side of the Upper Valley starting Wednesday, according to a news release from Gov. Kelly Ayotte’s office.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, DHHS, has partnered with the New Hampshire Food Bank to support residents who receive benefits through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

SNAP benefits were not issued as usual on Nov. 1 due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. The state support is slated to continue for five weeks or until benefits resume.

The mobile pantries and food boxes are specifically for New Hampshire SNAP recipients. Individuals will have to show an EBT card or notice from DHHS confirming their participation to collect food.

The New Hampshire Food Bank will host two mobile food pantries in the Upper Valley at:

  • Runnings in Claremont, 403 Washington Street, on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Walmart in Woodsville, 4901 Dartmouth College Highway, on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At its mobile food pantries, the food bank typically provides an “assortment” of produce and shelf stable foods.

Food boxes also will be available at:

  • Claremont Soup Kitchen, 51 Central Street weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Listen Food Pantry in Lebanon, 60 Hanover Street from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

In Vermont, officials opted to use reserve funding to issue two weeks worth of SNAP benefits to Vermont SNAP recipients, which should be available by Friday. State leaders also allocated $250,000 to the Vermont Foodbank to provide extra support to food shelves and pantries.

The New Hampshire mobile food pantry and food pick up locations are subject to change based on demand. A full list of locations is available on the DHHS website at https://tinyurl.com/ycxwhvty. It will be updated weekly on Mondays.
