(Rolla, MO) — More than 70 5th thru 8th grade students are about to have a blast at Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Aerospace Camp. Director Jeff Chalfant, an Assistant Professor of Education at S & T, says campers will learn to make and launch pop bottle rockets, how to code robots, and learn about propulsion systems among other activities. He says the camp aims to inspire the students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. He says it may even result in launching future careers in the aerospace industry. Chalfant says students in this age group have an impressive knowledge of STEM already and he has great expectations for them. He says the camps also offer an opportunity for young people to be exposed to a college campus and make friends with other like-minded students.
The annual camp is co-sponsored by Missouri S & T and Missouri 4-H.
