Missing Carencro man’s body found at Washington campground | Crime/Police

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a Carencro man Monday after he was reported missing earlier that morning.

Jason Paul Faul, 45, was reported missing in the early morning hours of Monday to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, which notified authorities in St. Landry Parish that he may have been in the Washington area.

A 2025 Chevrolet pickup registered to Faul was detected by license plate readers traveling north on Interstate 49 near mile marker 20. Using the vehicle’s OnStar system, Lafayette Parish authorities determined it arrived at a campground in Washington around 3:30 a.m.

St. Landry Parish deputies located the truck at the campground. It was unlocked and unoccupied, with a cellphone inside, authorities said.

Deputies searching the area found a key fob and a chair near the edge of the Courtableau River. A short distance away, Faul’s body was discovered in the water near the bank.

An autopsy found no signs of foul play, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results as the investigation continues.

Guidroz thanked the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for its assistance, noting that technology such as license plate readers and vehicle tracking systems helped bring the case to a quick resolution.
