Michigan football not only suffered its second loss of the season on Saturday, but it is no longer ranked.
The Wolverines went from 15th to unranked after their 31-13 loss to USC, falling out of the Associated Press Top 25 and US LBM coaches’ polls this week.
It marks the first time this season that Michigan (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) is not ranked. Sherrone Moore’s team did receive 73 votes, making it the second team left off this week’s AP rankings.
Ohio State held on to the top spot in the AP poll, followed by Miami at No. 2, while Indiana jumped four spots to No. 3 following its impressive road win at Oregon. Texas A&M also rose one spot, leapfrogging Ole Miss at No. 4.
Alabama and Texas Tech also benefitted from victories on Saturday, each rising two spots to No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Oregon, Georgia and LSU round out the top 10 this week.
The last time Michigan found itself unranked was last season, when the Wolverines fell to 4-3 amid offensive woes. They never could recover, closing the regular season with a 7-5 record despite a shocking upset win over Ohio State.
USC, now 5-1 after beating Michigan, entered the AP poll at No. 20 this week.
Michigan is set to host 5-1 Washington on Saturday.
South Florida (5-1) experienced the biggest jump this week, rising five spots after a convincing XX-XX win over North Texas. Oklahoma fell the furthest, eight spots to No. 14 after a loss to Texas.
