NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Community members gathered at the North Kingstown Town Beach playground on Wednesday to dedicate a tree and memorial bench to the woman struck and killed by a drunk driver while riding her bicycle in 2024.

Linda Sherman, 53, was struck while traveling on Boston Neck Road in the town on June 20, 2024.

Sherman was rushed to an area hospital where she passed away from her injuries.

She is remembered as a mother, wife and dedicated member of the basketball community of North Kingstown.

60-year-old Daniel Famiglietti, who retired from the Providence Police Department in 2022, failed multiple sobriety tests.

He was sentenced on Oct. 15 to serve seven years in prison.
