Bowling Green — Maxine Calland Worthington, 88, of Bowling Green, KY passed away on February 3, 2026 in Bowling Green, KY.
She was born at home in Fletcher, Ohio, (Miami County), to the late Alta Oleta McGlaughlin and Kenneth Russell Calland. Maxine was a graduate of Brown Local High School where she was valedictorian of her class and an enthusiastic cheerleader.
She was a past member of the singing group, Sweet Adelines, and was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Omega Chapter, Bowling Green, Community Greeters Club, and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Maxine was a secretary for many years; her last position was for 25 years in the Department of Mathematics at Western Kentucky University. Her family was always her first love and she stayed active with them as long as possible.
Maxine was an avid supporter of men’s basketball at Western and of Greenwood volleyball when her granddaughter played. She was always ready for a game of cards or a board game. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jim.
She will be missed by her daughter Kristal Lowe (Joe) and son Gregory Worthington, of Bowling Green, daughter Kelly Moore (Jefferson) of Louisville, grandchildren Erica Kunkel (Randall) of Louisville, Lauren Martinez (Nathan) of Gallatin, TN, Shelby Wheeler (Cory), and Braden Worthington of Bowling Green. Grandson Lincoln Worthington preceded her in death.
Also missing Gigi are great grandchildren Connor, Thatcher, and Daphne of Louisville, Griffin Martinez of Gallatin, and Marshall Wheeler of Bowling Green. She will also be missed by her brother Michael Calland of Cincinnati, Ohio. Brother Richard Calland of Maysville, KY and sister Joan Burch of Piqua, Ohio, preceded her in death.
Maxine chose to be cremated. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green.
