SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Former city council member Marshall Selberg has announced his campaign for the Mayor of Sioux Falls.

Selberg’s formal campaign will kick off Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at The South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance.

In a new release, Selberg’s core campaign message is based on his track record of being a “bridge builder and problem solver”, focused on bringing diverse people and personalities together to achieve common goals.

Selberg has eight years of government experience as a city council representative for the Southwest District, where he’s held various leadership roles, including two of those at council chair.

He has also been a real estate business owner for 18 years, 15 of them as a Chamber of Commerce Diplomat Emeritus.

“I’ve always believed that life begins when we begin to serve, and the strong desire to serve the people of Sioux Falls has stayed with me,” Selberg said in a news release. “I believe our city’s best days are ahead — if we work together to make them happen.”

Selberg is the fifth person to apply as a mayoral candidate. David Zokaites announced his plan in April, Jamie Smith announced his plan in May, Christine Erickson announced her plan in July, and Joe Batcheller announced his plan in August.

The 2026 municipal election date is set for June 2, 2026, coinciding with the state primary election.
