HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – The Marshall Thundering Herd admittedly did not play their best football in their game against Texas State, but the Herd dug deep and came back to win a double overtime game over the Bobcats 40-37.
Marshall trailed 17-13 entering the second half, and on the first play of the fourth quarter, Brad Jackson and Bo Sparks connected for a 73 yard touchdown to take a 24-16 lead.
Marshall would add a field goal, and then a touchdown pass from Carlos Del-Rio Wilson to Adrian Norton to take a 27-24 lead. Texas State would add a 50-yard field goal from Tyler Robles to send the game to overtime.
Both teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, as Jo’Shon Barbie scored for Marshall, while Lincoln Pare scored for Texas State. Marshall held the Bobcats to a field goal in second overtime, and then Barbie scored from one yard out to win the game.
Marshall improves to 4-3 on the season, and the Herd have 12 days off before they face Coastal Carolina on the road on Thursday, October 30.
