⭐Manchester Township Middle School’s chorus performed with Foreigner
⭐Students earned the honor by winning a contest
⭐Foreigner also donated $500 to support Manchester Township’s music program
MANCHESTER — An Ocean County junior high school choir experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform on stage with a legendary rock group Sunday night.
Wearing their special t-shirts for the occasion, the Manchester Township Middle School choir took to the stage and performed the choir part for Foreigner and their hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” in front of thousands at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
“This experience was about so much more than sharing a stage with a legendary band,” choir director Katie Sherman said. “It gave our students the chance to build confidence, create lifelong memories, and see firsthand where dedication to their craft can take them. We are incredibly grateful to Foreigner for recognizing our students and supporting music education in Manchester.”
Foreigner donated $500 to support the district’s music program.

A hit song with New Jersey roots
The opportunity came as part of the band’s “Foreigner 4 Education” initiative. It offered school choirs the chance to be part of a concert on their current Double Vision, Double Trouble. Sister Townsquare Media station 105.7 The Hawk teamed with Foreigner in February looking for one-minute video submissions.
Sherman teamed with resident Greg Lassik, a nationally known cinematographer and editor, to put together the submission. The choir at one point sang the song for two hours straight to get the sound and visuals of the song just right, Sherman told Patch. The submission video also includes members of the choir having fun in the hallways of the school.
The choir was very happy when the Hawk’s Doug Bueler broke the news they won and screamed for joy.
The original version of the song from their 1984 album “Agent Provocateur” has New Jersey roots as it was performed by the New Jersey Mass Choir. They also appeared in the video.
