JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A 60-year-old Jamestown man was rescued from the James River by first responders on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at approximately 9:56 p.m.
Stutsman County 911 dispatch received a call from a concerned citizen who reported a male was in the James River she believed was drowning. The caller reported hearing the male yelling for help in the 1400 block of 2 Ave NE, as the river borders this area to the west. Jamestown Police Officers immediately responded to the area.
Officers arrived minutes later and found a male in the river, who appeared to be struggling. The river was estimated to be deeper than 7 feet deep in the middle part of the river channel. Two Jamestown police officers entered the river and assisted the male over to the riverbank.
According to the police report, the 60-year-old male resident of Jamestown appeared to be highly intoxicated and in need of further medical and mental health treatment. Jamestown Area Ambulance transported the male to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment and observation. Officers were not injured during this incident, but some police equipment was damaged during the recovery of the male from the water. The Jamestown Police Department was assisted by Jamestown Area Ambulance.
