SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — A man reported May 30 that he received a court summons in the mail for a traffic offense in the city that did not involve him.
The summons suggested that he failed to show up for a court date in the city for an offense in which he was cited for a red-light violation and for driving under suspension. He said that he does not even own the car that was listed in the offense.
Upon review of the body-worn camera footage from the traffic stop, it was confirmed that the man was not driving the car. He did not know who driver was nor the registered owner, but the driver had the man’s ID.
The man said that his ID had been lost or stolen about a year earlier, but he never reported it.
Officers contacted the owner of the car. That man, 28, said he had let someone use his car that day in May but would not provide a name.
The driver was subsequently identified as a Warrensville Heights man, 27, and charges are pending against him for fraud.
Charges were filed against the registered owner for obstructing official business and wrongful entrustment.
