The Baltimore Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead Tuesday evening in East Baltimore.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at about 10 p.m. in the 1900 block of East Lafayette Avenue, where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a statement from the department.

Medics took the man to a nearby hospital, where was he pronounced dead by medical staff.

Homicide detectives will lead the investigation.
