INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is dead and another hospitalized with critical injuries after they were found stabbed Wednesday night at a downtown Indianapolis gas station, police say.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was sent to a report of a person stabbed just after 10:20 p.m. Wednesday at 401 Kentucky Ave., the address of the Speedway gas station and convenience store that sits a block west of Lucas Oil Stadium. Images from the scene showed numerous police cars and officers at the scene within the hour after the report.
The men were taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical conditions, but one of them — believed to be the perpetrator — died about 11 p.m. Wednesday, IMPD said.
Investigators believe some sort of disturbance led to the stabbing. They were working to collect surveillance video from the area to learn more about what happened.
Police at the scene said that there was no continued threat in the area, noting that the National FFA Convention & Expo is ongoing through Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium and the adjacent Indiana Convention Center. About 71,000 people, primarily high school students, are attending the convention, with the U.S. secretary of agriculture set to visit the event on Thursday.
