GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A 69-year-old man died hours after a semitractor hit him at a State Road 3 intersection, Greensburg Police Department said Thursday night.
Emergency personnel found Denver Jones, of St. Paul, Ind., with serious injuries about 4 p.m. Thursday at the State Road 3 intersection with Freeland Road. That’s a signaled intersection just south of the the state road’s I-74 interchange. The area has a gas station, restaurants, a hotel and an urgent-care medical center, but no sidewalks along the intersecting roads.
Jones was taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital. From there, he was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
Rex Hewitt, 53, of Arlington, Ind., was drive of the semi involved in the collision. He remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said.
A news release from the police department did not say what may have led to the fatality.
The Decatur County city of Greensburg, with 12,300 residents, is about an hour’s drive southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
