A Circuit Court jury convicted on Thursday a 31-year-old man on charges stemming from a 2021 incident in which he drove his Jeep and crashed into vehicles and pointed a handgun at police officers attempting to arrest him.
Dion Kitzmiller was found guilty on three counts of first-degree criminal property damage and one count of ownership or possession of firearm prohibited by a felon, which are Class B felonies and each carry a maximum 10-year term.
The jury declined to extend his sentence for being a repeat offender.
Honolulu Prosecutor Steve Alm said he would seek the maximum sentence possible so Kitzmiller cannot harm anyone else.
His sentencing is set for Jan. 8.
Crime Reduction Unit officers tried to arrest Kitzmiller on two $50,000 bench warrants on May 25, 2021 in Kalihi. The warrants were for abuse of a family or household member, terroristic threatening and firearm offenses.
