EDDY COUNTY, N.M. – Eddy County sheriff’s detectives arrested a 29-year-old man for the shooting death of a 42-year-old man.
Sheriff Matt Hutchinson said his deputies responded May 23 to Capitan Reef Road where it crosses the Pecos River. Deputies found Nicholas Andres Lucero, 42, unconscious and not breathing.
On Aug. 19, detectives arrested Shay Louis Perez. According to court documents, Perez had been drinking prior to the shooting. Deputies booked Perez on charges of voluntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and negligent use of a deadly weapon related to the investigation.
