Make your voice heard on Tuesday

Tuesday is election day. And while there is no presidential or governor’s race on the ballot, the decisions made by voters this week will directly impact your life.

Across the region, there are mayoral, magistrate, school board, city commission and other races to decide.

The people we elect to these positions will make decisions about taxes and policy that reach into every home.

Yet voter turnout, especially in non-presidential years, is always woefully low.

During the last midterm election in 2022, less than half of eligible Kentucky voters cast a ballot. And when you consider the fact that many eligible people are not registered to vote, it means that a very small percentage of the population is making these important decisions.

For those who think their vote won’t matter, we have seen countless razor-thin elections locally and statewide — there have been some elections decided by a single vote.

The voting booth is where Americans can help shape their community now and in the future.

If you feel uninformed about a candidate or issue, the internet offers unlimited information (just make sure you are using credible sources, like your local newspaper).

Early voting is allowed through Saturday (Oct. 31) and polls will be open Tuesday

Polling locations are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
