Mainer Sam Morse finishes 19th in Olympic downhill debut

Carrabasstt Valley native Sam Morse finished 19th in his men’s downhill skiing Winter Olympics debut on Saturday at Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, Italy.

Morse, 29, who secured his spot on the US alpine team in January, finished his run in 1:53.68, a little more than two seconds behind Olympic gold medal winner Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland.

A pair of Italians — Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris — took home the silver and bronze medals.

Morse was one of four Americans to compete in the downhill.

Kyle Negomir of Colorado finished 10th in 1:53.20.
