This was a year that LSU coach Jay Johnson would like to forget.

For the first time since 2011, LSU missed the NCAA Tournament and suffered its worst record since 2007, the only season in which the program has failed to reach 30 wins since Skip Bertman was hired as head coach in 1984.

The campaign was nothing short of a failure. The Tigers were coming off their second national championship in three years and began the season as the No. 2 team in the nation. Omaha was the standard, and yet, LSU couldn’t even earn an invite to the big dance.

But this summer, Johnson hasn’t spent much time feeling sorry for himself after a down season. LSU has gone out and added arguably the best transfer portal class in the nation to pair with a high school signing class that enters the draft as the No. 2 class in the nation, per Perfect Game.

Along with bringing back star shortstop Steven Milam, LSU has laid down the foundation for a roster that’s expected to compete for championships again in 2027.

But Johnson won’t be able to make the final touches on his roster until the end of the 2026 MLB Draft, which begins with Rounds 1-4 at noon Saturday on NBC and continues with Rounds 5-20 starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
