Eads says that Miller, a standout point guard, has taken command of the offense with a newfound confidence and leadership this season.
“His confidence has been the biggest key,” the coach said of Miller. “He’s a kid who really has taken a lot to heart, being left out of some recognition. He’s worked incredibly hard on his game. His ability to go out there and stretch a defense has been huge for us.”
And then there’s the twins.
Loris guard Khalid Sherman leads a possession down the court against Waccamaw on Jan. 13, 2026.
A mainstay at Loris for several years both on the court and on the gridiron during football season, the Sherman brothers have provided plenty of highlight-reel moments for Lions fans over the past several years.
Eads — like many in the Loris gym — has sat back and watched with excitement.
“Khalid, I never get tired of watching Khalid,” he said. “He is so steady for us. He’s always composed.
“And then Khalil is energy, man. He’s out there flying around the floor every night. He has the ability to dead sprint half the court and make a play. He brings a spark to us that’s really contagious…”
To be sure, Loris is loaded with seniors this season, oftentimes the start to a perfect recipe to make a state championship run. Miller leads the team with 16 points per game, followed by Khalid’s 14 per game and Khalil’s 12 per game.
But the senior leadership doesn’t end there. As others like MyKhai Bell (11 ppg) and Jacobien Lewis (7 ppg) rotate in, the Lions don’t miss much of a beat.
Last year, Loris’ season ended at the Florence Civic Center in the Class 3A Lower State finals, a heartbreaking 42-39 loss to Keenan.
Eads’ entire group remembers the feeling of coming up short, and their 2026 goals are anchored in that perspective.
“We definitely have some points we want to clean up,” Eads said. “We have a habit of having these spells where we allow teams to come back into a game. Right now, I think we’re working on playing 32 complete minutes with this group. But, we know what the ceiling is for us, and that’s getting back to Florence again.”
