Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — Middle 5th Inning

Zac Cowan has settled in and is retiring Arkansas batters quickly. 

Brent Iredale, Justin Thomas and Charles Davalan all grounded out during a 10-pitch fifth. After throwing 40 pitches over the first and second innings, Cowan has thrown 36 since the start of the third. 

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — End 4th Inning

Landon Beidelschies has thrown 4 scoreless innings for the Razorbacks. 

He worked around a leadoff hit batsman in the fourth. He struck out Jared Jones swinging at a fastball, got Josh Pearson to fly out to left and struck out Chris Stanfield looking at a fastball. 

Beidelschies’ pitch count is at 62. Cole Gibler has been up in the bullpen for the Razorbacks. 

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — Middle 4th Inning

Ryder Helfrick led off the fourth with a 417-foot home run to center field on the first pitch he saw from Zac Cowan. 

Helfrick turned on a breaking pitch with a 108 mph exit velocity for his 15th home run this season. 

Cowan bounced back to strike out Cam Kozeal and Kuhio Aloy looking before an inning-ending fly out by Reese Robinett. It was another relatively quick inning for Cowan, 13 pitches. 

He has thrown 66 pitches today, which is a season high. He threw 60 at Oklahoma on April 5. 

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 3rd Inning

Landon Beidelschies struck out the top of the LSU order on third-strike breaking pitches in the third inning. 

All 5 of his strikeouts have included third-strike off-speed stuff. He is pitching as well as we’ve seen from him in a couple of months. 

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 3rd Inning

The third was a disappointing inning for the Razorbacks, whose top third of the order went 1-2-3 in 13 pitches against Zac Cowan. 

Charles Davalan lined out to first, Wehiwa Aloy struck out and Logan Maxwell grounded out to shortstop. 

Cowan threw 40 pitches through the first couple of innings, but that quick one allowed the relievers to sit back down for the time being.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 2nd Inning

LSU stranded a pair of runners in the second inning when Landon Beidelschies struck out Michael Braswell with an off-speed pitch. 

Jared Jones led off the inning with a single. It appeared Josh Pearson had bounced into a double play the next at-bat, but he beat Cam Kozeal’s throw to first base. 

After Chris Stanfield hit a dribbler in front of the plate for the second out, Daniel Dickinson was intentionally walked to get to the 9-hole hitter Braswell. He got ahead 2-1 but swung through consecutive breaking balls. 

Beidelschies has been efficient with 20 of 29 pitches for strikes.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 2nd Inning

Cam Kozeal led off with a single and Brent Iredale reached on catcher’s interference with 2 outs. Justin Thomas hit into a 6-4 fielder’s choice to end the inning. 

Zac Cowan has thrown 40 pitches through the second inning for LSU. Jaden Noot is up in the Tigers’ bullpen.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 1st Inning

Derek Curiel doubled to lead off the inning, but Landon Beidelschies worked around it by retiring Ethan Frey on a pop up to second, Steven Milam with a deep fly out to right and Luis Hernandez looking at a 1-2 breaking ball. 

Beidelschies threw 12 pitches in the inning. His fastball velocity was 93-94 mph. 

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 1st Inning

Three Razorbacks went to full counts against Zac Cowan in the first inning, but he worked around Logan Maxwell’s 2-out single. 

Shortstop Steven Milam made the play of the inning with a sliding stop and throw from the grass on a ball hit deep into the hole by Wehiwa Aloy. 

Ryder Helfrick grounded out to third base to end the half inning. 

Cowan threw 22 pitches in the inning.

Pregame

Arkansas and LSU are set to get underway at 6 p.m. on a pleasant, clear night in Omaha. 

The Razorbacks need a win tonight to keep their season alive. The Tigers can clinch a trip to the national championship series with a win. 

Arkansas will start left-hander Landon Beidelschies against LSU right-hander Zac Cowan in pitching matchups announced shortly before game time. 

The Razorbacks will be the designated visiting team tonight and wear its gray jerseys with red hats. LSU is wearing white jerseys with purple hats.
