Arkansas pushed its advantage to 56-39 on a layup by Malique Ewin that was assisted by Wagner, but Vanderbilt ended the 6-0 run with a Tyler Tanner 3-pointer.

Arkansas 46, Vanderbilt 35 – Halftime

For as well as Arkansas played defensively for most of the half against the nation’s No. 10 scoring team, it has its fair share of breakdowns over the final sequence.

Malique Ewin hit both free throws out of the break to give the Razorbacks a 17-point advantage, but Vanderbilt responded with a Tyler Nickel 3-pointer off an offensive rebound to get within 41-27.

Duke Miles rattled home a corner 3 late in the shot clock to get the Commodores within 41-30. Then after an alley-oop drunk by Ewin, another offensive rebound a 3 for Nickel trimmed things to 43-33.

The teams traded makes — a second-chance look inside by Trevon Brazile and a layup by AK Okereke — to keep the margin at 10.

Ewin went 1 of 2 at the stripe with 24 seconds left and Miles missed a 3 before the buzzer to set the halftime score at 46-35.

Arkansas 39, Vanderbilt 24 — 3:50, 1H

Great ball movement by Arkansas out of the timeout led to a Meleek Thomas teardrop make that pushed the lead to 36-17.

Vanderbilt got back within 17 on free throws by Duke Miles 15 seconds later. And after a missed alley-oop dunk by Trevon Brazile, an alley-oop dunk on the other end by Jalen Washington got the Commodores within 36-21.

Karter Knox and Tyler Nickel traded 3-pointers — the latter of whom got a fortunate bounce high in the air that dropped back in — to make the score 39-24.

Malique Ewin was fouled before the break going up for a put-back and will be at the foul line when play resumes.

Arkansas 34, Vanderbilt 17 — 5:51, 1H

Arkansas is sizzling from downtown, shooting 6 of 11 (55%) from 3-point range. A flurry of makes during the last stanza has the home crowd going crazy.

Trevon Brazile went to work inside out of the timeout and had a nice finish off a spin move to put Arkansas ahead 20-8.

A driving layup by D.J. Wagner stretched the lead to 14 before a put-back make by Devin McGlockton, but then a Darius Acuff corner 3-pointer made it a 25-10 advantage.

The teams then started trading 2s for 3s. Makes from downtown by Wagner and Meleek Thomas sandwiched layups by Vanderbilt, putting Arkansas up 31-14.

Then a step-back trey by Thomas gave the Razorbacks a 34-14 lead, sending Bud Walton into a frenzy. Vanderbilt countered with a 3 by Tyler Nickel to temporarily silence the crowd.

Vanderbilt called its second timeout of the game.

Arkansas 9, Vanderbilt 2 — 15:37, 1H

The Razorbacks have been great on the defensive end early, holding the Commodores to 1 of 6 shooting. It’s been the key to creating some separation by the first timeout.

Nick Pringle finished inside off the glass to put Arkansas ahead 2-0 on its second possession of the game. The make came on an assist from Meleek Thomas.

Tyler Nickel got Vanderbilt on the board at the 17:21 mark with a fortunate bounce, as a jumper hit off the top of the backboard and dropped in.

Back-to-back strong takes to the rim and finishes by Darius Acuff and Meleek Thomas gave the Razorbacks a 6-2 lead.

Acuff was stuffed going up for a dunk, but a hustle play by Nick Pringle to get the ball back and great ball movement lead to a Karter Knox corner 3 that has Bud Walton going crazy.

Pregame

The nation’s biggest game today — at least in terms of rankings — is set to down tonight inside Bud Walton Arena.

No. 20 Arkansas (13-5, 3-2 SEC) is scheduled to host No. 15 Vanderbilt (16-2, 3-2 SEC) at 8 p.m. on ESPN. It is college basketball’s lone ranked matchup Tuesday.

The game feels pivotal for both sides, as one team will stamp a signature victory and the other will have to wait until Saturday to try and end a losing streak.

The Commodores enter the game on a two-game losing streak, falling at Texas (80-64) and against No. 16 Florida (98-94) last week.

While they will be looking to end a skid, the Razorbacks are hoping to avoid one. Arkansas was beaten 90-76 at No. 21 Georgia on Saturday, but has been strong inside Bud Walton this season with a 10-0 record and key wins over Louisville and Tennessee.

Check back closer to tipoff for starting lineups and live updates.
