Arkansas 10, Northeastern 8 — Bottom 9th Inning
Will Fosberg had a 2-out battle at the plate that ended with a 2-run double to right on a 3-2 pitch from Steele Eaves.
Arkansas 10, Northeastern 6 — Middle 9th Inning
Zack Stewart went the other way with a 424-foot homer to left to lead off the ninth.
Reese Robinett then hit a 2-run solo home run 425 feet to left-center. That was his second homer today and third in two days.
Steele Eaves is back to pitch the ninth.
Arkansas 8, Northeastern 6 — End 8th Inning
Steele Eaves worked a scoreless eighth for the Razorbacks.
Carter Bentley gave Northeastern a 1-out base runner when he was hit by a pitch, but Tyler Harmony bounced into a 4-6 fielder’s choice and Eaves struck out Carmelo Musacchia looking to end the inning.
Cooper Dossett is up in Arkansas’ bullpen, but it’s not clear if he’s throwing. Our view of that area is obscured.
Arkansas 8, Northeastern 6 — Middle 8th Inning
Ryder Helfrick hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the top of the eighth inning.
Christian Turner led off with a walk and was bunted over by Damian Ruiz. Camden Kozeal was hit in the hand/wrist area by a pitch to bring Helfrick to the plate.
Steele Eaves will pitch the eighth for Arkansas. The Razorbacks do not have a pitcher up in the bullpen, but plenty of guys are staying loose in case they have to get warm.
Arkansas 8, Northeastern 6 — End 7th Inning
AJ Aschettino’s 2-run, 2-out homer to left-center field against Steele Eaves has given the Huskies some life in the bottom of the seventh.
Matt Brinker singled in the 2-out at-bat before Aschettino’s homer.
Charlie Criscola followed the homer with a single and he stole second base, but Eaves struck out Cooper Tarantino to strand him.
Arkansas 8, Northeastern 4 — Middle 7th Inning
Nolan Souza’s 2-run home run the other way gave the Razorbacks the lead again. Souza’s fourth home run of the year was a 2-out hit that went 408 feet over the fence in left-center field.
Camden Kozeal was on base after an infield single to lead off the inning.
Maika Niu followed Souza’s home run with a hard-hit single to left and Reese Robinett hit his second homer of the series.
Arkansas 4, Northeastern 4 — End 6th Inning
Matt Brinker hit a 1-out solo home run over the batter’s eye in center field to cut into the Razorbacks’ lead in the sixth inning.
That homer was given up by Parker Coil, who ran into more trouble later in the inning. AJ Aschettino walked and Cooper Tarantino reached on a 2-out fielding error by third baseman TJ Pompey before Henry DiGiorgio’s RBI single cut the deficit to a run.
Steele Eaves replaced Coil and gave up an RBI single to Carter Bentley to tie the game.
Two runners were stranded when Tyler Harmony grounded out to the pitcher.
Arkansas 4, Northeastern 1 — Middle 6th Inning
The Razorbacks loaded the bases for the third consecutive inning but this time came away empty handed when Damian Ruiz hit into a 4-6-3 double play that was upheld after a replay review.
Maika Niu led off with a walk. After Reese Robinett lined out to second base, TJ Pompey was hit by a pitch and Christian Turner reached on a fielding error by second baseman Charlie Criscola.
Arkansas 4, Northeastern 1 — End 5th Inning
Parker Coil came out of the bullpen and worked around a 2-out single by Tyler Harmony in the fifth inning.
Both teams have 5 hits, but the Razorbacks have drawn 2 walks without issuing a walk on the mound, and they have done more with runners on base.
Northeastern is changing its pitcher in the sixth inning. Freshman right-hander Tom Mahoney replaced Cooper Maher.
Arkansas 4, Northeastern 1 — Middle 5th Inning
Christian Turner hustled for a leadoff infield single and Camden Kozeal was hit by a pitch after Cooper Maher recorded the first out.
Ryder Helfrick nearly homered, but his line drive to left hooked foul. He flied out on the next pitch to advance Turner to third.
Zack Stewart followed with a walk to load the bases for the second time in as many innings. And just like last inning, Nolan Souza delivered an RBI hit with the bases loaded, but this one ended when Kozeal was sent home from second base and thrown out at the plate by left fielder Carter Bentley.
Arkansas 3, Northeastern 1 — End 4th Inning
The Huskies are on the board with consecutive 2-out base runners. AJ Aschettino singled and Charlie Criscola reached on a fielding error by second baseman Nolan Souza.
Ryan Gerety scored on the error. He hit a 1-out single.
With runners at the corners, Cooper Tarantino fouled out to first base to end the inning.
Arkansas 3, Northeastern 0 — Middle 4th Inning
Three consecutive 1-out base runners loaded the bases for Arkansas.
Camden Kozeal bunted and reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, Ryder Helfrick singled to left field and Zack Stewart drew a four-pitch walk.
That drew a mound visit to Cooper Maher. Nolan Souza followed with a 2-run single to center field to score the game’s first runs.
Maika Niu took a called third strike for the second out, but Reese Robinett followed with a bloop single over the first baseman’s head to score Stewart and move Souza to third base.
TJ Pompey hit into a 6-4 fielder’s choice to end the half inning.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — End 3rd Inning
Tate McGuire is matching Cooper Maher’s effectiveness. He retired the Huskies in order in the third inning with a strikeout, groundout and flyout.
McGuire has faced one above the minimum. He has thrown 29 of 42 pitches for strikes.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — Middle 3rd Inning
The Razorbacks will go to the fourth still looking for their first base runner.
Cooper Maher struck out Reese Robinett and Christian Turner for his fourth and fifth strikeouts of the game in the third inning. Arkansas has not had a good swing against him yet.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — End 2nd Inning
AJ Aschettino led off with a single to center field but was thrown out by Ryder Helfrick while trying to steal second base. The Huskies have 210 stolen bases this year, which leads college baseball, but they are 0 for 2 at this regional.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — Middle 2nd Inning
The Razorbacks have yet to have a base runner through the second inning against Cooper Maher.
Zack Stewart and Nolan Souza grounded out before Maika Niu’s inning-ending strikeout in the top of the second. Maher has thrown 15 of 23 pitches for strikes.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — End 1st Inning
Tate McGuire worked around a leadoff single by Tyler Harmony in the first inning. Harmony stole second base as Ryan Gerety was called out on strikes and Matt Brinker flied out to right field to end the inning.
Arkansas 0, Northeastern 0 — Middle 1st Inning
Cooper Maher has Northeastern off to a good start with a 1-2-3 first inning that included strikeouts of Damian Ruiz and Ryder Helfrick.
The wind is blowing in briskly today which should make the ballpark play bigger than it has the first two days. The stands are probably about half full, maybe slightly less, and mostly Arkansas fans.
Pregame
It has been another cloudy, rainy morning in Kansas, but it appears as of now the weather should be OK for Arkansas and Northeastern to play at noon.
Both teams need to win twice today to force a game tomorrow.
The Arkansas-Northeastern winner will play Kansas tonight in the regional final. If the Jayhawks win tonight, they win the regional. If Arkansas or Northeastern win twice today, there will be a winner-take-all regional title game Monday night.
Arkansas will start right-hander Tate McGuire (5.20 ERA) against Northeastern right-hander Cooper Maher (3.52 ERA).
Northeastern will be without one of its best players today, Harrison Feinberg (16 home runs, 42 stolen bases), who has a hamstring injury.
Here is a look at Arkansas’ starting lineup:
LF Damian Ruiz
SS Camden Kozeal
C Ryder Helfrick
DH Zack Stewart
2B Nolan Souza
CF Maika Niu
1B Reese Robinett
3B TJ Pompey
RF Christian Turner
