LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln county commissioners rejected a 6-month data center moratorium again 3-2.
During the three-hour long public comment and debate, supporters and rejecters of the moratorium listed several reasons to support their cases.
Supporters said the extra time would help answer questions about water, energy use and long-term impacts. They say it was never about stopping development entirely.
“I am asking you to support the temporary moratorium over the new data center approvals,” said a supporter at the meeting. “Not because I am opposed to economic development but because I believe Lincoln owes its citizens the truth.”
Rejecters said the county is already properly equipped to review the projects on a case-by-case basis.
County leaders will continue to consider proposed data center applications after this rejection.
