INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis leaders on Wednesday unveiled the renovated Franklin Township Community Park.
The $2.8 million renovation, funded by the Lilly Endowment, includes a new playground, pickleball and basketball courts, paved trails, and other improvements.
The park’s renovation is part of a broader $80 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to enhance public spaces across Indianapolis.
Indy Parks Director Brittany Crone emphasized the collaborative effort behind the renovations. Crone said in a statement in a news release, “This renovation is more than just a facelift. It’s a reflection of what happens when we come together with a shared vision for the future.”
Franklin Township Community Park, at 99 acres, is the second-largest park in Franklin Township and features sports fields east of Franklin Central High School. The park’s address is 8801 Edgewood Ave.
Other parks undergoing renovations include Southside Park, Tolin Akeman Park, Southwestway Park, Perry Park, and Thompson Park. These projects will include new playgrounds, sports courts, and trail improvements, with completion dates ranging from late 2025 to 2026.
