Lady Gators, Spartans win season-opening meet

Host Greenwood won the girls’ team competition and South Warren took the boys’ team title at Saturday’s Greenwood All-Comers track and field meet.

The Lady Gators scored 95 points to top the field, with South Warren (63), Warren East *(61) and Bowling Green (32) also competing.

South Warren’s boys’ scored 87 points to edge runner-up Greenwood (84), followed by Warren East (52), Bowling Green (43) and Foundation Christian Academy (6).

Greenwood’s girls’ team picked up individual wins from Allie Doran in the 400-meter dash (1 minutes, 1.93 seconds), Lily Clark in the 800 (2:22.56), Charlotte Johnson in the 1,600 (5:24.38), Lily Rodrigue in the long jump (15 feet, 2 inches) and Ava Morrison in the shot put (33-07.50).

South Warren tallied girls’ wins from Katelyn Best in the 3,200 (11:49.75), Zawadi Omari in the 100 hurdles (18.29) and Karis Carter in the pole vault (9-00).

Warren East’s Brelynn Wardlow won two events, the 100 (12.94) and high jump (5-10). The Lady Raiders also got a first-place finish from Reata Jones in the 300 hurdles (53.44).

Faith Evans notched a win in the 200 (26.47) and Essence Reed was first in the triple jump (33-02.00) for Bowling Green.

Taj Davis scored wins in both the boys’ 200 (23.18) and 400 (51.30) to lead South Warren to the team title. Also winning for the Spartans were Emmanuel Hernandez in the 800 (2:01.17), Korbyn Parker in the 300 hurdles (43.88), Kypton McKinney in the long jump (20-00.75) and Zackary Walters in the pole vault (12-00).

Camden Goodrich finished first in both the 1,600 (4:40.98) and 3,200 (10:18.51), and Isaiah Summers won both the high jump (6-6) and triple jump (42-11.75) to lead the host Gators. Griffin Howard chipped in with a win in the shot put (49-03.00).

Warren East got a win from Jereme Lee in the 110 hurdles (16.55), while Bowling Green picked up a first-place finish from Drian Bunton in the 100 (11.07).

The meet was a time/field trial for area schools, so no relays were run. Due to construction, no discus competition was held at the meet.
