La Cueva, St. Pius, Santa Fe Prep claim boys soccer championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 2025 high school soccer season in New Mexico has come to a close. State championships for all three boys classifications were held on Saturday at UNM.

5A

  • #1 La Cueva – 1
  • #3 Rio Rancho – 0

The lone goal of the match came from Bears freshman Brice Clark. With the win, La Cueva now has the most state championship victories for any school in the state’s highest classification.

4A

  • #1 St. Pius – 2
  • #3 Albuquerque Academy – 0

The Sartans and goalkeeper David Bunnell were stout against the Chargers attack and played to a clean sheet. Two goals scored in the first half propelled Pius to its 19th state title in program history.

A-3A

  • #1 Santa Fe Prep – 2 (3 PK)
  • #2 Sandia Prep – 2 (2 PK)

The Sundendevils got off to a blazing start as they scored two goals off of penalty kicks in the first half. It was a foreshadowing of what was to come. The Blue Griffins scored two second-half goals off the foot of 8th grader Aiden Nickson and sent the game to overtime. Eventually, Santa Fe Prep won in PK 3-2.
