PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After unsuccessful bargaining sessions, another Clark County school district is closed on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of Evergreen Public Schools.
La Center School District announced Tuesday night that the district will remain closed on Wednesday as negotiations with the La Center Education Association continue.
In a statement on the La Center School District Website, Superintendent Peter Rosenkranz shared that negotiations continued into the night, and families in the district will be updated before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

“Negotiations will continue this evening, and we remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached soon. We will provide an update to families tomorrow evening regarding our progress, no later than 8:00 pm,” the statement said.
The La Center Education Association shared that they are committed to reaching an agreement, saying that they are seeking reasonable class sizes, appropriate work conditions, additional support for students and comparable wages to other nearby districts.
“We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that acknowledges the support our students need – and acknowledges the important work teachers do each day for the members of our community,” says Brian Clegg, La Center Education Association past president.
Teachers are expected to picket outside district schools throughout the day.
Nearby school district, Evergreen Public Schools, has remained closed for over a week as staff continue to strike.
Evergreen Public Schools are expected to continue bargaining on Wednesday.
