PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WOWK) — A Kentucky shopping center that was damaged from flooding earlier this year is set to be renovated and reopened.
According the a press release from Governor Andy Beshear’s Office, the Weddington Shopping Center in Coal Run will be home to an economic development project that will reopen the shopping center.

Weddington Plaza Partners LLC plans to invest nearly $6 million in the restoration. The renovations include removing damaged property, replacing flooring, roofing, electrical components and rebuilding the flood wall. Around $1 million has already been spent on cleaning, repairs and renovations to the center.
“One defining characteristic about the people of the commonwealth is resilience, and every time an obstacle or challenge presents itself, we face it, work together and build back stronger than we were before,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “This project is a great example of the positive impact that collaboration and teamwork can have on our communities and will bring economic opportunities back to Pike County and areas affected by flooding. I want to thank the state and local officials and organizations for making this restoration possible.”

The shopping center is set to be 50% occupied and opened within 12 months and fully reopened within 36 months. The project will also help retain around 300 jobs.
