WINONA, MN – A 79th-minute goal by Julliet Lopez completed a comeback Friday for Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Soccer in a 2-1 victory over Winona State at Altra Credit Union Stadium at Maxwell Field. UJ captured their first win of the season in their NSIC opener.
After a left-side run, Lopez, a sophomore, put in a high corner shot for her first goal as a Jimmie. Jamestown (1-2-1, 1-0-0 NSIC) held off two Winona State shots and corner kicks in the last 11 minutes.
McKayla Paukner gave Winona State (0-3-0, 0-1-0) a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.
Breanna Oettle’s second goal of the season tied the match for the Jimmies in the 69th minute. Gaby Lopez crossed from the left side for Oettle, who hit the bottom left hand corner.
Goalkeeper Ellie Dake made four saves before leaving with an injury in the 75th minute. Taylor Musser played the rest of the game and made two saves. Winona State led 12-6 in shots, including 7-3 on goal.
The Jimmies will play Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday afternoon in St. Paul, Minnesota.
