IRONTON, OH (WOWK) – With Memorial Day right around the corner, one community in Southeastern Ohio is taking time to honor fallen soldiers.
On Wednesday, the Flags of Honor ceremony kicked off the Memorial Day commemorations at the Lawrence County Courthouse in Ironton.
Hundreds of flags were displayed outside the courthouse, with each one representing a certain war in which a soldier from Lawrence County lost their life serving our country. The fallen soldiers honored dated from World War I to the recent War on Terror in the Middle East.
“We just hope they see what we’re doing, and they continue to make this their yearly event leading up to Memorial Day. That people get out here and come and cherish the moments we have together and enjoy the memories of the fallen soldiers,” said Teresa Brown, Lawrence County Veterans Service Officer.
These flags will remain on display through Memorial Day and until next Wednesday, May 28.
