State prosecutors have identified the man fatally shot by police Sunday outside a new Columbia apartment complex for adults with disabilities as 25-year-old Alexander Lamorie.

Lamorie, who police said was holding a knife and threatening to harm himself, was a resident of the complex, called Patuxent Commons, the Mission First Housing Group and Autism Society of Maryland confirmed on Monday. The group was Patuxent Commons’ developer.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown’s office also identified three Howard County Police Department officers involved in the Sunday shooting as Officer Joel Rodriguez, a two-year veteran of the department; Officer Cody Bostic, a six-year veteran; and Pfc. Joseph Riebau, a 10-year veteran.

Howard County Police said Sunday that officers responded to a call for service at the apartment building in the 6400 block of Freetown Road around 12:09 a.m. They encountered Lamorie outside the building around 12:22 a.m., when he approached officers holding a knife, according to police.

Police said the man disregarded commands to drop the knife and was shot by responding officers. Police did not say how many officers fired or how many times Lamorie was shot.

Lamorie was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. No officers were injured.

Under state law, the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division has assumed the investigation into the shooting and will release follow-up information.

The Attorney General’s office said footage from police body-worn cameras is generally released within 20 days of an incident, although some situations may require more time.
