INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Each and every Saturday, WISH-TV highlights a local company together with our partners at Indiana Grown.
This week, Annie Johnson with Black Jewell Popcorn joined News 8 at Daybreak.
Black Jewell Popcorn, a father-daughter-owned business, describes its goal as elevating snacks by
“offering a healthier, more sophisticated alternative to ordinary snacks.”
Johnson says outside of the snacking mission, they specialize in heirloom or heritage popcorns, the most recognizable being the “Black Jewell.”
“It has a little richer flavor than just an ordinary yellow popcorn,” she said. “A fresh, crispy crunch. It’s a little different flavor texture profile that makes it really, really good to eat.”
They offer a handful of different flavors and varieties of snacks, including bags of unpopped kernels that you can pop on your stovetop. Johnson adds that the unpopped kernels are her personal favorite.
Black Jewell Popcorn is available at Kroger and Fresh Thyme for its ready-to-eat varieties; you can also find its microwaveable popcorn at Meijer, as well as its website.
