The first week of the Horry County high school football season was anything but normal.

Thanks to wild weather on Friday night, we saw a little bit of everything. 

Friday night postponements. Saturday morning games, Monday Night Lights. 

It was anything but a traditional start to the year, but all of the games eventually were played and local teams are now off and running as they begin their seasons and quests for dominance in 2026.

Weather cooperation depending, we will have a full and normal slate of Week 2 games this Friday night as teams try to settle into some type of rhythm here in non-region play. 

It will be a short week for those teams who did have to either play or finish their games on Monday evening (Atlantic Collegiate, Conway, Loris and St. James), but what’s the start of the year without a little adversity?

Horry County High School Football Week 2 Schedule

Atlantic Collegiate (1-0) at Marlboro County (1-0)

• Atlantic Collegiate last week: Win over Mullins, 29-8
• Marlboro County last week: Win over Myrtle Beach, 61-20

ACA Head Coach Antoine Rivens left the win over Mullins in great spirits, touting his team’s “full-team victory” with a particularly upbeat tone — and for good reason. 

Last year, ACA dropped their matchup to Mullins by a score of 38-14. Here in 2026, the significant swing is hopefully a sign of things to come for the Armada as they enter a new campaign.

Rivens raved about his team’s defense, led by standouts like junior Solomon Freshley (who had multiple sacks against Mullins), Garrett Smith and Semaj Wilson. The coach says he feels optimistic about the direction his offense is headed, but ACA’s defense is the clear anchor that will key the Armada in 2026.

Heading to Marlboro County will be no easy task — the Bulldogs just dropped 61 points against Myrtle Beach in Week 1. But, Rivens says he feels confident his group (up in Class 3A this season) is ready for the test against a team in Marlboro County that some think could contend for a Class 2A state title this season.
