ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Heat advisories and an air quality health alert cover parts of New Mexico as highs near 100 degrees and ozone levels rise.
Most of the state is dry, with heat advisories in effect until 8 p.m. for areas around Albuquerque, parts of the Rio Grande Valley and near the Four Corners area.
The Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Air Quality Program issued a health alert because of elevated ozone levels. People with respiratory conditions in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County should limit outdoor activity.
A few showers and storms will move through parts of the state through the evening, but the Albuquerque metro area should stay dry.
Heat and rain chances
Heat advisories will return from noon until 8 p.m. for Farmington and areas around the Four Corners. High temperatures will still reach 100 degrees in some areas.
Sunday will bring a few more showers and storms to New Mexico. The best chance will be over the central and northern mountains and western counties near Arizona.
There is a small risk for heavy rainfall Sunday. Hot temperatures will continue Monday.
Rain chances will gradually increase next week in many areas. A few parts of New Mexico could see heavy rainfall each day, and temperatures should cool later in the week.
