HBO ‘Hacks’ star Hannah Einbinder reveals when show will end

HBO’s “Hacks” will be ending after five seasons.

Hannah Einbinder, who plays Ava Daniels on the hit comedy drama, shared the news with E! host Heather McMahan (via Variety) on the red carpet of the 77th Emmy Awards on Sunday.

“We’re going to start [filming] next week, and knowing it’s the last season is really bittersweet. But I think it’s right, you know? It’s nice to do something as many times as it should be done. Not overstay your welcome. Rip it and do it and laugh and cry,” Einbinder said.

McMahan repeated the “rip it” quote back to Einbinder, who responded: “You can quote me on that. I’m going on the record on that.”

The show was nominated for 14 Emmys on Sunday. Einbinder, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the show, took home the gold later that evening. This was her first-ever Emmy win.

During her speech, she teased the fact that she had never won before after previously being nominated in this category in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

“Thank you, wow. I really, sorry. I was just really committed to the personal narrative that I had that it’s actually cooler to continue to lose. I was pretty committed to that. Had to be, right? But, this is cool too. This is also a punk rock,” Einbinder said.

She went on to thank the creators of “Hacks” for “changing my life in every conceivable way. Not just by giving me a great gig, but by being my friends and being my family.”

Einbinder also gave co-star Jean Smart a shoutout, who took home the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. “I want to thank Jean Smart, who is like the sun, and I just to stand in her warmth.” She also thanked the cast and crew of the “Hacks.”

Einbinder then became the first celebrity to have their acceptance speech censored during the night, when she said: “Finally, go birds, f— ICE and free Palestine. Thank you.”

“Hacks” follows the relationship between legendary Las Vegas comic Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her entitled, outcast Gen Z comedy writer Ava Daniels (Einbinder). Seasons 1 through 4 of “Hacks” are currently available to stream on HBO Max.
