Hanahan library to host Spanish Storytime

The Berkeley County Library System will host Spanish Storytime from 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Hanahan Library, 1216 Old Murray Court.

The event is open to Spanish-speaking children from birth to age 5, though additional ages are welcome. Children will hear stories read in both Spanish and English by volunteers, and the event will also feature dancing, singing and interactive activities.

Organizers say the program is designed to support language development and early literacy by engaging children in their native language. According to research cited by the library, children who are immersed in their native language through stories, songs and conversation tend to have an easier time learning to read in a second language.

One Spanish Storytime reader described the event as part of a larger effort to serve the community.

“Family Storytime series for Spanish-speaking customers and community members. Stories are read in Spanish/English,” she said. “Boeing teammate volunteers to support with STEM-based readings in Spanish/English highlighting careers at Boeing, our aerospace industry, and advanced manufacturing. This event is supported in partnership with our Boeing Familia BRG.”
