Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on new Charleston build site

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – With hopes to rejuvenate and rebuild the area, Habitat for Humanity broke ground on a new property in Charleston Tuesday.

These efforts are going toward improving access to affordable housing in the Capitol City’s West Side neighborhood. The celebration took place on Grant Street, where Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam invited community members, donors and volunteers to mark the milestone.

“They got their own blood, sweat and tears in their own home. And what a difference that makes, you know?” said Tiny Hanshaw, construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity. “Anytime you build your own thing, you take more pride in what you do with that, and it gives you a sense of pride when you get to see the finished product.”
