GREENUP, Ky. (WOWK) — The City of Greenup, Kentucky is traveling back in time this weekend for their annual Old Fashioned Days celebration.
Full of hometown charm and unforgettable fun, this year’s three-day event brings together food and craft vendors, live music, family-friendly activities, and so much more.
Wednesday night, crews were getting everything set up for the event which kicks off Thursday with school performances, a pageant, and uplifting gospel music.
Friday features free kids` activities, a quilt show by the “Quilt Guild,” and an interactive game show.
On Saturday, Mountain Man from the reality TV show Duck Dynasty will be in town, along with the Old Fashioned Days parade and talent show. A live performance by musical artist joleigh will cap off the evening.
Old Fashioned Days Co-Chairman Bambi Reed says this event started as a way to remember the city’s heritage.
“This got started back years ago, for the merchants and everything to bring people to greenup county and to the city and it’s grown over the years, I think we have, like, 80 vendors this year, which is probably some of the largest that we’ve had. We do have a new thing that we’ve been trying to get started over the last few years, and that’s the scarecrow contest. They’re all through the City of Greenup,” Reed says.
While the festivities will be going on in the downtown area, on Saturday night, they’re expecting a crowd to filter into the Greenup County Fairgrounds for a night of lawn mower races.
