INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — As the monthlong federal government shutdown continues without any end in sight, the Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis Inc. is seeking 20 volunteers for its parade and observance ceremony on Nov. 11.
A news release issued Thursday from the council said, “The ongoing federal government shutdown has limited the availability of traditional uniformed support teams, including Reserve and Guard personnel, prompting a citywide appeal to ensure the event continues as planned.”
The Veterans Day Service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis, followed at noon by the Veterans Day Parade from the intersection of Michigan and Pennsylvania streets, south on Pennsylvania Street to New York Street, and then north to Meridian Street.
The council needs volunteers are for roles including parade staging, barricade management, radio communications, and reviewing-stand support. Shifts will run from 7 a.m.-1 p.m., but arrangements can be made for shorter commitments.
“Even with the shutdown’s challenges, the mission remains the same: to honor those who’ve served,” said a statement from President Doug Haggan of the council in the release.
