Good Time Charley: Arkansas Filmmaker Corbin Pitts to Premiere First Feature

Arkansas filmmaker Corbin Pitts will debut his first feature film, “Good Time Charley,” with a red-carpet world premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the CALS Ron Robinson Theatre in Little Rock.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the screening beginning at 7:30 p.m. After the film, Daniel Campbell and Graham Gordy will host a Q&A with Pitts and composer Jonathan Bartz, followed by an afterparty at Crush Wine Bar in Argenta. Tickets are $24.99 and available on Eventbrite.

Pitts has also partnered with Be Mighty, a Central Arkansas nonprofit focused on combating food insecurity by providing free meals, essential resources and nutrition-focused programming to local youth and families. A portion of proceeds from the premiere will be donated to support Be Mighty’s community initiatives. The partnership reflects what organizers describe as a shared belief in strengthening Arkansas families and expanding access to nourishment and opportunity.

Produced by Pitts’ Heroe Productions Entertainment, “Good Time Charley” marks a significant milestone as the first feature film for the young filmmaker, who previously wrote, directed and starred in his featurette, “Salad Days” (2022).

The new film follows astronomer Charley Codwell as he uncovers a comet conspiracy and must redeem himself, expose the truth and curb growing mass hysteria. Pitts spent his senior year raising funds for the project by going door-to-door, and shot the film over three weeks with a mostly youth-led crew shortly after graduation. Much of the story is informed from his own experiences navigating the upheaval of his final year of high school.

“When writing this film, I was a high school senior in the middle of what I would consider a social war zone–COVID-19, political division, an upcoming presidential election, and much more,” said Pitts. “Once you turn thirteen, kids become vicious. They find their cliques and groups, and as they develop into young adults, they slowly but surely find themselves deep in an echo chamber. ‘Good Time Charley’ is a culmination of all the feelings/emotions I experienced at seventeen years old while navigating hyper-political social environments with general anxiety disorder and understanding what it means to be in ‘Gen Z.’”
