A woman who harbored one of the four men accused of riddling a car with bullets in a November drive-by that killed an 8-year-old boy pleaded guilty to an accessory charge and was placed on probation for three years.
Brianna Crump, 20, reached the plea deal with state prosecutors three months after she was indicted on six charges tied to the Nov. 27 shooting that killed Diellon Daniels.
She was charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and five counts of accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder. She pleaded guilty to the accessory to murder charge Tuesday inside a Baton Rouge courtroom, and District Judge Fred Crifasi deferred imposing a prison sentence for three years in accordance with the plea deal.
The judge placed Crump on active supervised release with 11 conditions during that period, according to 19th Judicial District Court records. Among them, Crump must get a substance abuse evaluation, remain sober and undergo random drug screenings. She must also complete 75 hours of community service, and Crifasi ordered her to refrain from associating with any of the alleged shooters in the fatal drive-by.
Crump was one of seven people indicted in March on various charges tied to the shooting. Authorities said four men pulled up and sprayed dozens of bullets at a Honda Accord driven by Courtlyn Lunche Daniels, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, while five of her children were in the car with her.
Police said the midafternoon shooting in the 1000 block of Swan Avenue in north Baton Rouge’s Scotlandville neighborhood was a hit attempt where the shooters mistakenly targeted the wrong people. Diellon Daniels, 8, died after being rushed to a hospital. His 11-year-old sister and 7-year-old brother survived multiple gunshot wounds. Courtlyn Daniels birthed a baby boy one day after the shooting, on Thanksgiving Day.
A grand jury indicted Yancey Omar Jarrell Jr., Tremell Deion Harris, Roger Parker and Kendrick Profit on charges of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting and illegal use of weapons during a violent crime. Damarcus Parker was indicted on a charge of obstruction of justice.
Crump and her 41-year-old mother, Yarnell Deanne Crump, were both indicted on the same slate of accessory charges. Prosecutors said the women helped Roger Parker by harboring him in their Baton Rouge apartment between Dec. 25 and 31, while he was wanted as a suspect in the shooting.
