CUNDIYO, N.M. – The Frijoles Fire has burned 15,339 acres in the Pecos Wilderness and firefighters have contained 59% of it.
The fire started Aug. 4 from lightning about three miles east of Cundiyo, New Mexico. Officials issued no change in evacuation status on Saturday.
Fire crews said they are patrolling containment lines and putting out hot spots across the fire area. In the north and northeast, crews are focusing on nearby communities, watersheds that feed reservoirs and acequias used by surrounding communities.
The Southwest Area Team has retaken command of the fire from a California emergency management team. 629 people are assigned to the fire.
In Santa Fe County, Cundiyo, Cerro Piñon and the Borrego Mesa area near Forest Roads 440 and 306 remain in Set status. Nambe Pueblo Lake remains in Ready status.
In Rio Arriba County, Cordova remains in Ready status. A closure remains in place on NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76, and a temporary forest area closure remains in effect in the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District.
