Four killed in weekend Louisiana house fires | News

Four people, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed in two Louisiana house fires over the weekend, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The first fire was reported in Hessmer Saturday morning and claimed the lives of three people. The second was overnight Sunday in Houma and left one man dead and another seriously injured, officials said.

At around 7:17 a.m. Saturday, the Hessmer Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in the 100 block of Lymon Lane. A 10-year-old boy, 58-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were found dead inside the house.

The home did not have a working smoke alarm, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Just before midnight the next night, Houma firefighters responded to a fire in the 1100 block of Grinage Street. A 70-year-old man died in the fire while his brother suffered fire-related injuries and was taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans. Officials do not know whether the residence had a working smoke alarm.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating both fatal fires at the request of the local fire departments.
