First trial over TPUSA skirmish at the Gov’s Mansion postponed

For those hoping to learn the fate of the Turning Point protesters arrested last March during a skirmish outside the Governor’s Mansion, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The trial of Cameron Bone, one of four protesters arrested following a high-profile Turning Point USA event at the Sanders residence, was continued today, and will now happen on September 10 in Pulaski County District Court.

The other individuals arrested alongside Bone – Olivia Thompson, 49; Finley Hanson, 19; and her mother Jennifer Hanson, 46 — attended today’s court date in support of Bone.

The March 11 altercation unfolded following an event for TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk, the divisive far-right leader who took over the organization after her husband Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Kirk was in Little Rock to announce an effort with Gov. Sarah Sanders to expand Turning Point USA chapters into all Arkansas schools.

The clash took place as Ron and Stephanie Daniels of Fayetteville were leaving the TPUSA event. According to widely circulated videos of the skirmish, Ron Daniels first clashed with Olivia Thompson, 49, of Little Rock, who had been filming and heckling the couple. Ron Daniels swung at Thompson, according to video footage of the incident filmed by onlookers, before other protesters rushed into the melee. Bone appears to wrap his legs around Finley Hanson, as law enforcement rushed into the crowd.

The Daniels couple left the scene and were not charged. The decision to arrest only protesters while no charges were filed against the Daniels drew widespread scrutiny.

Bone, 24, faces two Class C misdemeanor charges of obstructing governmental operations and disorderly conduct, which could carry a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500. A lesser charge of resisting arrest could carry a 30-day jail sentence and a $500 fine. Olivia Thompson faces misdemeanor charges of harassment, disorderly conduct and harassment, while Finley and Jennifer Hanson face more serious 2nd degree battery charges in addition to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

With Bone’s trial date pushed to fall, attention turns to the other defendants. The most important date to watch next is Olivia Thompson’s trial date, currently set for July 9. Finley and Jennifer Hanson are scheduled to appear before Judge Karen Whatley for a plea and arraignment hearing on June 22 in Pulaski County Circuit Court. As court dates often change, we’ll keep you apprised of any changes.
