Fire Marshal Urges Fireworks Safety Ahead of July 4th in Missouri

With Independence Day celebrations approaching, Missouri’s State Fire Marshal Tim Bean is reminding residents to stay safe as fireworks sales kick off statewide.

Fireworks Sales Begin June 20
Seasonal stands are legally allowed to sell fireworks from June 20 through July 10. As of June 16, the state had issued 1,127 permits to retailers.

July 4th: Peak for Fires and Injuries
“Independence Day is the busiest day of the year for fires,” said Bean. “And it’s when most fireworks injuries happen.”

In 2024, 328 Missourians sought hospital care due to fireworks-related injuries.

Safety First
Bean encourages families to attend public displays. If using consumer fireworks:

  • Follow all the instructions
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Never let children handle fireworks

Bean encourages people to keep the holiday fun and safe for everyone.
