Few cooler fall days with sunshine now in Nebraska

Southeast Nebraska has seen a lot of rain over the past couple days, with some reporting 2-4″ of rainfall south and east of Lincoln. Some 4″+ reports were received from southern Gage County.

In Lincoln, 1.33″ was enough to set a new record for rainfall on October 6th. The old record for the most rainfall on October 6th was set back in 2017.

Temperatures overnight have dropped to some chilly 30s in northern Nebraska so far. Cold enough that the National Weather Service issued a Frost Advisory for northwest Nebraska until 9 a.m. MDT Tuesday morning as temperatures may drop as low as 30° in spots.

Here in southeast Nebraska though, it’ll be a bit warmer than that to begin the day. Temperatures will start out closer to normal if you can believe it – yes, 40s in the morning is where we should be compared to climate average.

Turning sunny this Tuesday, the next chance for rain in southeast Nebraska may not happen until next week at this point.

Then despite more sunshine, we’re slow to warm. Afternoon highs across Nebraska in the 60s will be pleasant for fall lovers today.

Tonight will be the first sunset before 7 p.m. with the sun going down earlier and earlier toward the winter solstice in December. But sunset won’t be later than 7 p.m. again until we “spring forward” with clocks in early March.

Overnight, temperatures will be cooling to be more seasonal in the 40s. Some, including Lincoln, may see morning lows drop to the lower 40s by early Wednesday.

We’re slow to warm up this week, meaning these cooler fall temperatures will last a little longer.

South winds will get stronger namely by Thursday and this upcoming weekend. Warmer temperatures in the 80s are in the forecast for this Saturday and Sunday.
