Female pedestrian hit, killed by semitruck on I-15 near St. George; highway reopens

WASHINGTON, Washington County — A woman was struck by a semitruck and killed while in the roadway on I-15 near St. George Friday morning, leading to the closure of southbound lanes.

Troopers are not sure why the woman was in the roadway or where she came from, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden. Traffic was diverted off the exit near Washington’s Main Street during the closure — which had resolved as of 11:15 a.m. — Roden said.

Traffic officials alerted that southbound lanes were closed due to a crash just after 6 a.m. near Main Street in Washington. A separate alert said northbound lanes and the left shoulder of I-15 were blocked near Washington Parkway — about a mile northeast of the first crash — just before 7 a.m, but those lanes had reopened as of 8:30 a.m.
